Thus far, the 2021 campaign for Cedar Stars Rush has certainly been a successful one, as the team currently sits in 2nd place with a 6-3-2 record within a talented Metropolitan Division. CSR has the most goals scored thus far on the season (22) and just came off a successful 2-1-1 road trip, where the lone 1-0 defeat came at the hands of the top-seeded Long Island Rough Riders. On Wednesday evening from FDU Stadium, a high-scoring CSR bunch was once again shut out by a score of 2-0 in their match against FC Motown. A potent offensive attack for the squad has now been silenced in consecutive appearances.
Immediately after the opening kickoff, FC Motown took control of the game and had momentum in their favor. Off a broken play in the 2nd minute, Thomas Devizio was able to run right past the CSR defense and sneak the ball into the top right corner to give his team an early 1-0 lead. Most of the action took place in the midfield third. Both CSR and FC Motown played fantastic defense, in front of their respective goaltenders. In the 61st minute, Federico Oliveira of FC Motown was able to double the lead. Despite CSR having six corner kicks in the 2nd half alone, a comeback for the team seemed doubtful.
CSR was outshot by FC Motown via a 9 to 7 margin, with three shots being on target to Motown’s five. CSR now looks to bounce back on their home turf next Wednesday, June 30th, versus a skilled team in Manhattan Soccer Club.
