Another Wednesday evening match from the Fairleigh Dickinson University Stadium has concluded, which featured a battle right up until the final whistle. After a brief rain delay, Cedar Stars Rush, in their all-whites, were able to kickoff action against in-state rival New Jersey Copa FC. The game ultimately concluded in a 1-1 draw.
NJ Copa got off to a quick start and, in the 10th minute, were able to break the scoreless tie. Okan Golge was in the right position in front of the net and managed to tuck the ball past an out-stretched Daniel DiMarco, CSR’s goalkeeper. After the early goal, the rest of the game was dominated by CSR.
The home team was asking all of the right questions as their playmakers, including ZemI Rodriguez, Ronald Arevalo, and Jamar Ricketts, generated chance after chance. However, it wasn’t until the 77th minute when Rodriguez, a member of USL League Two’s Team of the Month for May, was able to win back possession and place a shot off the left post to tie the game at one goal apiece.
CSR outshot Copa via a 19 to 2 margin, with seven shots on target to Copa’s one. Each team committed 16 fouls, with 4 combined yellow cards being issued within the last 20 minutes of action, as the competition heated up.
CSR now finds themselves with a 4-1-2 record and in 2nd place within a highly skilled Metropolitan Division. The team seeks to take care of business on their four-game road trip before heading back to their home turf on June 23rd to face another in-state rival in FC Motown.
