Carlstadt, N.J. - Cedar Stars Rush is thrilled to announce the return of Juan Santamaria as Sporting Director for the 2021 USL League Two season. Santamaria served in the same role during the club’s inaugural season two years ago. As Sporting Director, Santamaria oversees all aspects of player development.
“With the club focused on the growth of successful players on and off the field, I was thrilled to return and make that vision a reality for our players at the highest level of pre-professional development offered,” explained Santamaria.
Santamaria joined Cedar Stars Academy in 2014 and bringing with him more than 15 years of coaching experience in the US Development Academy and at the NCAA Division I level. Over the course of his coaching career, Santamaria has experienced success as he has guided his teams to state, regional, and national championship honors. Despite his own achievements, Santamaria is most proud of his development of many players still experiencing success at the collegiate level and professionally, both domestically and overseas.
“While results are always tracked, I am more focused on the overall development of each individual player this summer,” said Santamaria. “Success for Cedar Stars Rush is seen in our ability to help each player reach their fullest potential, like our past alumni Ronald Arevalo and Thomas Judge.”
Prior to coaching, Santamaria played his high school soccer at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, NJ before continuing his career at the Division I level with Rider University, while also competing in the PDL for the Jersey Express. Following his collegiate career, Santamaria played semi-professionally with Sport Club Portuguese. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Santamaria also serves as a scout for various professional teams within the Capelli Sports Network.
