Cedar Stars Rush was created through a collaboration between Cedar Stars Academy and Rush Soccer. The team is currently participating in the USL League Two that serves as a platform for developing collegiate soccer players into potential professional careers.
Before CSR’s inaugural season in USL League Two even began, they were projected to be 3rd in their division, one that boasts the likes of cemented heavyweights New York Red Bulls U23 and Reading AC. Both teams serve as feeder clubs to MLS teams New York Red Bulls and Philadelphia Union, respectively, so one can imagine that the expectations for Cedar Stars Rush’s first ever season in USL League Two were set sky high.
Their season kicked off away at Hofstra Soccer Stadium against the Long Island Rough Riders on May 11th, 2019. The game ended in a 2-0 loss, which was not the best way to start an inaugural season, but it did serve as a wake up call to Cedar Stars Rush players. They responded with a 0-0 draw away to FA Euro on May 14th, and a 1-1 draw vs Evergreen FC in CSR’s first ever home game at Fairleigh Dickinson University Stadium on May 19th. There were plenty of missed chances during that home game draw from Cedar Stars Rush that showed plenty of promise.
Everything would come into fruition in their following home game against New York Red Bulls U23 on May 25th. Cedar Stars Rush pulled off a 2-1 win at home with an astounding 300 fans in attendance. This game served as a huge confidence booster for Cedar Stars Rush as they were set to take on Mid Atlantic Division favorites Reading AC at home on May 28th. Cedar Stars Rush did challenge Reading AC, who are undefeated after 9 games, until the last minute, as the game ended in a 0-1 loss with plenty of chances and heart left on the field from CSR’s players.
On June 5th, Cedar Stars Rush hosted Ocean City Nor’Easters at Fairleigh Dickinson University Stadium that ended in 2-1 win. Three days later, Lehigh Valley visited Cedar Stars Rush as the match ended in a 0-2 loss at home. Following the ups and downs from their recent matches, Cedar Stars took on Evergreen FC away and took an impressive 3-0 lead going into halftime, but sadly gave up the three goal advantage and eventually ended in a 3-3 draw on June 15th. Despite not being able to see Evergreen FC off after 45 minutes, Cedar Stars Rush improved on their away record with a stunning 3-1 victory at Cedar Crest College against Lehigh Valley United four days later.
Despite their inconsistent results, Cedar Stars Rush have proved that they can challenge the top teams of the Mid Atlantic Division. Throughout the course of 9 games, they have only lost a third of their games with a total of 12 points that puts them tied for 4th place in their division. There are 5 games left in the season with plenty of points up for grabs. Cedar Stars Rush have shown that they are a resilient team that can bounce back from any setbacks and challenges that they come up against. You can expect them to put forth stellar performances in their last few games of their inaugural season in the USL League Two, and show everyone why they were projected to finish 3rd place.
