BROOKLYN, NY (May 14, 2019) - Cedar Stars Rush traveled to Brooklyn Tuesday to face FA Euro (1-0-0) for their second match in the USL League Two Mid Atlantic Division. Looking for their first points in their inaugural League Two campaign, Cedar Stars Rush welcomed a few new players to the squad, including midfielder Kian Alberto and defender Simon Busch.
The first half was a much better start than Saturday night as Cedar Stars Rush controlled much of the play. Possession favored CSR and a few chances were created, none better than midfielder George Akampeke’s header off of a corner from midfielder John Antunes late in the first half that just bounced over the crossbar. There weren’t many other threatening chances at goal for the half and the teams went into the break tied at zero.
In the second half the game really began to open up. FA Euro, after netting two second half tallies at Evergreen FC Saturday night, seemed to regain their second half confidence and took it to CSR. Goalkeeper Jason Dubrovic made two saves in the second half, none bigger than a diving stop off a corner for FA Euro. Dubrovich read the set piece, and parried the header over the crossbar while diving right to left. The final chance in the game came in the last few minutes. After a good break by CSR, the ball found its way into the box for midfielder Valentino Ambrosio who just couldn’t keep the ball down enough and missed over the top of the goal. Nothing would come in added time and the two teams walked off with a 0-0 draw.
Cedar Stars Rush looked much more dangerous and physical in their second match of the League Two season, offering up eight shots, albeit none on target. They will look to carry over the momentum from picking up a big road point when they take on Evergreen FC on Sunday May 19th at 5:00 for the home opener at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
